Barcelona confirm Valverde dismissal, Setien reportedly set to take over

Ernesto Valverde was sacked on Monday after two-and-a-half years in charge of Barcelona.

His final match was Thursday’s Supercopa semifinal against Atletico Madrid. Barca led that match 2-1 with nine minutes remaining, before goals from Alvaro Morata and Angel Correa condemned the Catalonians to a 3-2 defeat.

Quique Setien, who stepped down as Real Betis manager at the end of last season, is expected to succeed Valverde at the helm on a contract through June 2022.

More to come.
