Manchester City is ready to intervene in January with a 400m-euro deal for Argentine star Lionel Messi if he chooses not to sign his new contract in Barcelona.
Messi still needs to engage in the team’s admitted conditions at Camp Nou during July and can open the door for a move in the new year before becoming a free footballer.
Barcelona continues to say “Everything is signed, no need to worry,” but within the club are aware that Messi should make official with his picture with President Josep Maria Bartomeu, just as Andres Iniesta did this week.
The possibility that Messi does not sign a new contract should not be excluded. His current agreement expires on June 30, 2018.
According to the newspaper AS, amid this uncertainty, Manchester City remains open to everything. If the player wants to leave, the club will prepare an offer for January that weighs 400 million euros.
This figure would break the transfer record set this summer by Neymar from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain for 222m euros.
Sources close to the Premier League club say “serious talks have been held with the inner circle of the player,” although this has not been confirmed yet.
During these talks it seems to be understood that Messi is happy with his life in Barcelona. He knows his wife, Antonella, is not in favor of the family’s move, and Messi himself feels reserved.
He would like to see improvements in some aspects of his relationship with the club, but there are things that no longer depend solely on him.
