PSG donate €100K, create charity jersey to help coronavirus fight

Paris Saint-Germain have donated €100,000 to France’s Secours Populaire charity to support children, the elderly, and homeless people affected by the coronavirus crisis.

The money will also be used to help doctors working during the pandemic and to train volunteers.

“The Secours Populaire Francais and our 80,000 volunteer coordinator/fundraisers are very grateful for the support of Paris Saint-Germain,” the charity’s CEO, Thierry Robert, said Thursday, according to BBC Sport. “Once again, Paris Saint-Germain is responding to a call from our charity to help those victims of poverty or social exclusion.

“This support will enable the Secours Populaire Francais to act quickly to relieve the suffering of those most affected by the consequences of this unprecedented crisis.”

PSG have also launched a special jersey which retails at €175. They hope to raise €200,000 from sales of the shirts, with all proceeds going to healthcare professionals through the Assistance Publique-Hopitaux de Paris organization.

France currently has the fifth-highest national mortality rate from the coronavirus with 1,331 deaths. It has confirmed 25,624 COVID-19 cases overall, the fourth-highest count among European nations after Italy, Spain, and Germany.
