Report: Beckham's Inter Miami aiming for Nice boss Vieira

Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham is hoping to lure another former footballing star to South Florida ahead of the club’s maiden MLS season.

Current Nice manager Patrick Vieira is Miami’s No. 1 choice to become the expansion side’s first manager, according to a report from The Telegraph’s John Percy.

Vieira, who played for Arsenal while Beckham starred at Manchester United, allegedly held talks this week with Nice’s board, which is understood to be aware of Miami’s interest.

Miami is reportedly willing to compensate the Ligue 1 outfit for the Frenchman. While Vieira is the top target, the expansion side has apparently considered Belgium’s Roberto Martinez and River Plate boss Marcelo Gallardo for the position.

The 43-year-old Vieira, who’s been at Nice since June 2018, cut his teeth as a first-team manager with New York City FC for two and a half years. The World Cup winner joined NYCFC following a stretch as manager of Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad. Both clubs are part of City Football Group’s empire.

It’s unclear if Vieira fancies a return to North America. Previously linked with a move to Arsenal, he’s expressed interest in taking the next step in his managerial career.

“Since I was in Manchester City, I had a clear idea about the next step for me,” Vieira said in May. “Moving from City to New York in the MLS and then coming back to the French league was the right decision. I want to take my time to get there, but I would love one day to manage one of the teams I played for in Italy or England.”
