Arsenal is edging closer to signing Alexandre Lacazette as negotiations with Lyon near a conclusion over a club-record fee for the French striker, according to David Ornstein of the BBC.
The fee for the 26-year-old has “almost” been agreed upon, with French outlet L’Equipe reporting that the transfer will cost the north London team €60 million (£52 million). The agreed fee is also expected to include significant add-ons.
Once both teams reach an agreement, Lacazette is expected to discuss contract terms, and will undergo a medical at Arsenal’s facility.
On Friday, Jason Burt of The Telegraph reported that a deal could come to fruition as soon as this weekend, after the two teams seemingly managed to close the gap after being £4 million apart in their respective valuation of the French forward.
Lacazette’s reported arrival at the Emirates Stadium will see him become Arsenal’s most expensive signing, with his fee expected to eclipse the £42.5-million (€50-million) fee that the Gunners paid Real Madrid for Mesut Ozil in 2013.
He’ll also become the club’s second signing of the summer following the arrival of left-back Sead Kolasinac from Schalke on a free transfer.
Meanwhile, Lyon appears to be preparing for life without Lacazette, completing a transfer Friday for Mariano Diaz from Real Madrid.
