Zlatan statue's nose sawn off as vandals strike again

Vandals have once again targeted Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s statue, this time sawing the nose off the Swedish star’s likeness in his hometown of Malmo.

The statue, erected outside the stadium where Ibrahimovic played for Malmo, has now been vandalized on multiple occasions. It was set on fire in November, and saw marks were found on its feet earlier this month.

The incidents are apparently related to Ibrahimovic becoming part owner of Malmo’s rivals, Hammarby. The 38-year-old began his career with Hammarby, coming up through the club’s youth academy.

Kaveh Hosseinpour, the vice chairman of Malmo’s official supporters’ group, deemed the statue a “piece of junk” after learning of Ibrahimovic’s involvement with Hammarby.

“He basically stuck a knife in our backs, and then he came along with a sword and chopped off our heads,” Hosseinpour said, according to ESPN.

Malmo supporters have since started an online petition to get the statue removed.
