France opens Euro 2020 campaign with riveting win over Germany

The Euro 2020 favorite is off to a winning start.

France opened its tournament with an absorbing 1-0 victory over Germany on Tuesday in one of the most anticipated matches of the group stage.

Mats Hummels, called back into the fold for Germany by Joachim Low, scored the lone goal of the contest. Unfortunately for the veteran defender, it was at the wrong end of the pitch, as his 20th-minute own goal was the difference between the two European heavyweights.

Les Bleus, who looked more threatening throughout, had a pair of second-half tallies called back for offside.

More to come.
