Former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko has popped up on Manchester United’s radar ahead of the January transfer window.
As United search for players capable of boosting their attacking core, the Red Devils are considering a move for the Roma star, according to Mark Ogden of ESPN FC.
Dzeko has reportedly overtaken Juventus forward Mario Mandzukic on the club’s list of transfer targets, Ogden adds.
A move for Dzeko would appear to contradict Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s remarks earlier in November when the United manager claimed the club would only target players in January who can offer long-term solutions.
Yet, the need for a veteran forward has materialized with players such as Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial struggling to find the back of the net this season.
United were close to signing Mandzukic last summer before a move for the Croatian forward fell through in August. The Premier League side has since moved on from its interest in the 33-year-old due to his lack of playing time at Juventus, according to Ogden.
Dzeko, 33, is no stranger to the top flight of English football. He enjoyed a wildly successful spell at City, netting 50 goals in 130 league appearances while helping the club win the Premier League twice before his departure in 2015.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina star has scored five goals in 12 appearances this season for a Roma side that sits sixth in Serie A.
